The 2007 North Island Champs
took place at Napier Sailing Club over the weekend of 1st and 2nd December. The championship was contested by eight boats including one from the South Island, Alisdair Daines and Dave Gibb who traveled up from Nelson, class newcomers Christine Headey and Gun Caundel and Mark Berry and Paul Verry.

A cool southerly change a day preceding the regatta resulted in softer than usual sea breezes of 6-12 knots and plenty of sunshine. Racing was close during the 6-race series with many place changes, although the winners dominated the score sheet more so than on the race course.

Napier Sailing Club were very professional in running a well organized regatta as usual, juggling a fleet of 120 boats from eight classes over two courses in the large Hawke Bay. Ample rigging areas, slipway launching and other club facilities were enjoyed by the sailors.

Overall placing's: 1st Andrew McKee and Matt Bismark, 2nd Hideo Tayama and John Hoogerbrug, 3rd Mark Berry and Paul Verry.

The 2007/08 National Champs also took place at Napier Sailing Club from the 2nd to the 5th of January 2008. The weather replayed that of the North islands with light sea breezes. The regatta was close at the top coming down to the last race where Hideo took home the trophy, Andy and Matt second. Alisdair Daines and Dave Gibb, securing third, with Daryl Way and Jason Trottor forth.
